What is Deconstruction?
Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City utilizes various programs to support our communities and raise funds for our mission. One initiative is our Deconstruction Services, also known as “Decon”. Our deconstruction team partners with homeowners and contractors to remove kitchen cabinets, appliances, bathroom fixtures, doors and other reusable materials before renovations.
If you are in the process of remodeling, our deconstruction team can help you:
- Reduce waste and disposal fees
- Save time and money
- Preserve usable materials
- Support affordable housing
Contact our deconstruction services here. Our team will review your projects to help identify materials and items suitable for reuse. Once booked, our skilled deconstruction crew will come out and remove your items. Upon removal, we will transport the salvaged items to ReStore KC and sell them to support Habitat’s mission. Donors will receive a tax receipt for their donation.
Why? Diverting from Landfills
The process of remodeling can often feel wasteful when things are still in good condition. Every year, more and more items are getting thrown into our landfills. Our five area Habitat ReStores are not only supporting our core mission, but also work to keep items out of our local landfills. Each year, ReStore KC diverts approximately 7 million pounds of usable materials from the trash. Not only does this reduce waste, but it also provides high-quality discount building materials and furnishing to area residents while supporting Habitat KC’s mission to provide safe and affordable housing for local families.
