“This is all in God’s plan and everything is coming together.”
On Christmas of 2019, Brandy Carter, her husband, Albert, and their three children spent the holiday with no electricity, no water and no heat because their landlord had refused to fix the many problems that made their apartment an unsafe place to live. Now, as Habitat homeowners, the Carters are taking control of their lives by building a safe, stable and affordable place of their own.
“Knowing that our monthly payments are going to something we own will give us real peace of mind. We won’t have to worry anymore about what our landlord will and won’t fix.”
Brandy and Albert are building a brighter future for their family too. With the money they will save by paying an affordable mortgage, they plan to invest in themselves by going back to school.
“The home will give us the opportunity for Albert to get his CDL to become a truck driver and I’ll be able to take classes to become an RN.”
For the Carters, homeownership is opening the doors to opportunities they always dreamed of but never thought possible. With more space, security and peace of mind, Brandy says she thanks God for guiding them on this journey and bringing them to Habitat.
“This is all in God’s plan and everything is coming together. Habitat has given us a chance we didn’t think we would ever get.”
