Rosa

Rosa Fergoso had given up on the search for a home. After multiple loan rejections and struggling to save enough for a down payment, she became convinced that her family of six would be stuck in their crowded two-bedroom apartment for years to come.

Then, Rosa found hope in Habitat KC. Here is her story, in her own words:

Through my family’s personal experience with Habitat’s programs and services, I can attest to the good work they are doing for the community.

“Destiny brought me to Habitat. I applied for the program, not thinking I’d be approved, and was chosen to be part of the family soon after. Things have not been the same since then.

I’ve been a homeowner since 11/18/2021, and my life has changed with all the little things that no one realizes need to change. Something as simple as knowing my mortgage will remain the same, and I don’t have to worry about if I can afford it next year. Knowing I was able to adopt pets without having a landlord telling me I couldn’t.

Being able to sit on my porch and know I was able to achieve this goal, knowing my children are proud of me because I was able to purchase my own house, and that without Habitat, this wouldn’t have happened.

I tell everyone I can think of about them. I know they can change other people’s lives too. It is such a heartwarming and exhilarating feeling to witness the faces of the families that are chosen to be part of the program and to be there when they get the keys to their houses. It’s an addictive feeling to see kids’ happy faces when they realize they now have their own room.

Habitat should have all the support available because they are just trying to help others make their biggest and possibly hardest dreams come true”.
