For over three decades, Women Build has been breaking bias to empower women in creating a gender-equal world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Women—particularly women of color—face disproportionate access to opportunity, which can affect their ability to find a decent place to live. Housing affordability is a crucial women’s issue.

Why Women Build Matters

Women are disadvantaged in the housing market. Stigma, economic inequities and structural racism often prevent women from obtaining safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Women Build is a movement that empowers female-led families to achieve strength, stability, and independence. Your support
helps women unlock the transformative, generational benefits of homeownership, creating communities where every woman can build a secure and loving home.

  • More than 80% of Habitat KC homeowners are single mothers.
  • In the past seven years, 75% of Habitat KC homeowners who paid off their mortgages were single mothers or women-led households.
  • Just 50 years ago, women could be denied a mortgage without a husband’s or male relative’s signature.
