We’re proof that decent, affordable shelter has a long-lasting and life-changing impact on families and communities.
Habitat KC is taking a holistic approach to reducing poverty and improving equity in the Kansas City community. We’re focused on affordable housing, because safe and stable homes free families and individuals from instability, stress, and fear — encouraging self-reliance and confidence.
The impact of affordable homeownership extends far beyond the present — allowing families to plan for the future. When families have affordable housing, they can build wealth, invest in education, bolster job opportunities and career growth, and uplift their entire family for generations.

Revitalización de barrios
Through Habitat KC’s neighborhood revitalization work, we tailor our efforts by partnering with residents, community leaders and organizations to best address real concerns and improve the lives of the people who live in our focus neighborhoods. With residents leading revitalization efforts, our work looks different in each community but always has the same goal — to make a lasting impact on the quality of life of its residents.
Advocacy
Building is part of the solution, but the less visible aspects of housing, like laws, regulations, systems, and rules about land and the built environment, are critical components, too. We advocate to change policies and systems so that we can eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing—and you can help.
Housing Equity
Across the U.S., Black families are less likely to own their own homes than white families. During Habitat’s 45-year history, our work has helped close that homeownership gap, but we must do more.
We are building forward with intention by centering our work around those most historically impacted by racist housing practices. Our new advancing Black homeownership initiative responds to community feedback, removes barriers to homeownership, and aims to narrow racial disparities in housing.
