There are a variety of ways to get involved, from volunteering on construction sites to working in the office to joining a committee or cooking lunch for construction site volunteers, there is literally something for everyone.

One-Day build Volunteer(s)
Volunteer for a day by yourself, with a friend, or with a group of up to 12 people. The construction sites run from 8:00 am until about 3:00 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays, and the type of work depends on status of the house. Flexibility helps. Experience in construction is helpful, but not required.
This requires a time commitment of one week-day per week for 6 months. Contact Habitat for more information on this opportunity.
SKILLED VOLUNTEER POSITIONS…
A Crew Leader will be expected to guide 4-5 volunteers of varying skill levels; they demonstrate tasks, maintain standards, monitor safety and assure that the volunteers have enough meaningful work to have a satisfying experience. We provide crew leader training. Trainings are 7 weeks long and occur a few times a year.
NON-CONSTRUCTION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES…
Provide worksite lunches
Provide a lunch for construction work crews. It can be simple, like sandwiches, you can cook & deliver, or you can bring a grill to the site and cook-out. This can be a great opportunity for faith, civic, families or youth groups. Contact the Volunteer Director for more information.
Office volunteers perform a wide range of administrative tasks in support of Habitat’s business responsibilities. Duties may include filing, answering phones, greeting the public, preparing mailings, and/or data entry. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Please contact our volunteer department to check our current office needs.

Family Services Committee
The committee works as a liaison between families and Habitat for Humanity Kansas City. Members assist families in the transition from renter to homeowner, coordinate groundbreaking ceremonies, house blessings and homeowner skills workshops. Other members of the committee establish the eligibility criteria and accept applications for homeowner partners. Applications are available in the office and accepted all year long. The committee screens applications, does credit checks, explains the Habitat program to the applicants and makes home visits before recommending partner families to the Board.
Fund Development Committee
Members of this committee are responsible for locating the resources needed to build houses (i.e., people, material and money). A background in fundraising is helpful and preferred.
Members of this committee are responsible for site selection and acquisition, house design, organization of the construction plan, setting policies for house specifications and overseeing the quality of construction. Construction expertise is required.
Special Events Committee
Members of this committee will work with staff members to plan larger events (like Parade of Playhouses and the Birthday party) and fundraisers throughout the year. Party and event planning experience preferred.
