State Outreach Director
Job Summary
Create the Kansas Association of Habitat for Humanity to formalize a network of support for the Kansas Habitat affiliates. This position is being hired by the network of Kansas Habitat for Humanity affiliates and operates with the authority to execute the guidelines of a capacity building grant through Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.
Primary Job Duties
Board Governance
- Cultivate a strong, diverse, inclusive and highly engaged Board of Directors
- Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan including quarterly budget and program goals
- Support the Board with timely and accurate information
Resource Development
- Establish and implement a sustainable, and diverse funding strategy to support the financial and operational objectives of the organization
- Identify, develop and administer grants in accordance with funder requirements
- Identify and develop individual and corporate fundraising opportunities
Affiliate Engagement
- Develop and foster positive affiliate relationships and interactions
- Develop, implement and maintain strategic partnerships benefitting affiliates
- Develop, implement and manage affiliate capacity-building support and programs
- Assess needs to determine necessary training support to affiliates
- Provide ongoing and consistent communication and collaboration with affiliates to ensure KHfH is providing value-added services and products
Advocacy
- Lead the development of the annual legislative priorities that reflect the needs and values of the affiliates
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with state-level elected and appointed officials and other affordable housing advocates
- Support affiliate participation in national Habitat for Humanity International advocacy campaigns
General Administration
- Develop and maintain an annual budget and make quarterly reports to the Board of Directors/Kansas Housing Resource Corporation including variances of approved budget
- Track and support affiliates in achieving compliance of all federal, state and HfHI regulations
- Submit timely reports to Kansas Housing Resource Corporation and other funding sources as required
- Submit timely drawdowns for all applicable financial sources (grants)
- Establish and direct all financial and operational performance
- Other duties as assigned
Specific Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Should have or be able to acquire Qualified Loan Originator certification within 6 months of hire
- Ability to create a long-term vision and provide leadership
- Ability to establish, foster and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, funding partners, the public, City governments, and community service agencies
- Ability to work as a self-directed individual contributor
- Ability to work well independently and in groups
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and effectively lead by displaying sound and accurate judgment
- Ability to communicate KHfH’s program and mission clearly and persuasively in a variety of settings and to a variety of constituencies
- Ability to facilitate, collaborate and build partnerships
- Possess written and oral communication skills including public relationship and advocacy abilities
- Knowledge of effective financial management of non-profit organization, including budgeting and financial planning
- Knowledge of urban and rural affordable housing industry
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and processes and the ability to develop working relationships with potential funding sources
- Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions
- Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as need arises
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required
- Experience managing a non-profit organization, or other applicable management experience
- Experience and demonstrated success in grant management
- Prior experience with resource development and board governance
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check

Compensation
Salary range $70,000- $100,000
