Welcome home, Serukiza Family!
Coming to the United States in 2015 to escape the dangers of the war in Congo, Muhizi wanted a better life and opportunity for his wife and ten children. Living in a high rent situation with cramped living conditions and increasing family expenses with a son in college, Muhizi knew it was time to finally find his family a home that they owned and would be fitting for them all.
After learning about Habitat KC’s affordable homeownership program in 2018, he applied and was approved. He quickly began working hard to complete his sweat equity hours so that the work could begin on his home. “This is a miracle to be approved!” said Muhizi.
When the pandemic hit, it slowed down the progression of Muhizi’s home. Although slightly discouraged, his faith kept him going.
“When COVID-19 came, it’s like everything stopped, and I was very sad. We have been waiting years for this life-changing experience and we are so grateful and excited. I drive by the lot often to see the progress!”
When the groundbreaking finally happened on their home, their faith and patience proved to be worth the wait. Muhizi and his family will be in a home that not only provides stability for their growing family but also takes away the financial stress and gives them the confidence and stability they need to thrive.
