Grants and Outreach Manager
Full time: 40 hours per week
Primary Team Leader: Vice President of Development
FLSA Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full Time, Benefits Eligible
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Grants and Outreach Manager is a full-time position that serves on the Development Team and shares responsibilities for achieving fundraising goals. This position is responsible for assisting the agency in growing resources by developing strategies to retain and increase annual revenue from grant and foundation funding.
Responsibilities Include:
Grant Writing:
- Conduct the full range of activities required to accurately prepare, submit, and manage compelling grant proposals and reports in accordance with each grant-making organization’s preferences and guidelines.
- Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate new funding opportunities.
- Work with program, finance, and staff members to create compelling proposals and follow-up reporting.
- Acquire and maintain a deep understanding of the organization’s institutional history, range of programs and services, and future programmatic directions.
- Provide stewardship to current and prospective donors, including regular written updates and final reports to funders as requested.
- Maintain accurate records in the fundraising database including: grant calendar w/ submission dates, recording submissions, tracking, and reporting deadlines.
- Complete all required grant reporting with timely correspondence.
- Assist and lead with federal grant writing as needed.
Outreach:
- Pursue community engagement opportunities to identify potential funding opportunities.
- Actively seek new opportunities to tell Habitat KC’s mission and solicit organizational support through monetary contributions.
- Participate in cultivation discussions with outside partners as requested.
Performance Measures:
- Meeting deadlines
- Effective working relationships with all internal stakeholders and funders.
- Accurate and complete documentation of grants.
- Increase in funding
Working Conditions:
Candidates must also possess the ability to set and accomplish goals. Must be highly organized with the ability to multitask, implement systems and follow-up processes, able to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. You should be able to work independently and also work well with a team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience grant writing
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Exemplary writing skills (work samples will be required upon interview)
- Experience developing public funding proposals; securing and reporting for wide variety of grants, including state and federal grants
- Experience working database software systems
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage multiple projects simultaneously

The individual may reach above shoulder heights or below the waist or lift as required to file documents, store materials, or move materials on the job site throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques are required. Individual may be subject to intermittent moderate noise levels.
