Geneva’s Family Story

Geneva lights up a room with her infectious smile and warm personality.  A hard working, independent woman, Geneva will be one of Habitat KC’s proud homeowners this summer and we couldn’t be more excited for her.

This has always been a dream! I have always wanted a place to call my own where I can host Thanksgiving, family meals and gatherings,” Geneva exclaims.  She has been working her whole life toward this goal.

An avid saver, Geneva learned from a young age the importance of financial responsibility. “I came from very little—growing up I never had anyone teach me the importance of saving, but I knew it was something I wanted to learn.” She took the initiative to read financial literacy books in an effort to best prepare for her future.

Geneva will share her home with her 18-year-old daughter who is just as independent as her mother. The two are very close and have pushed each other to reach new heights in their career aspirations. Most recently, Geneva earned a promotion and her daughter enrolled in cosmetology school.

Her perspective on the Habitat KC program? “It has been amazing. Every time I am called to do something new for my sweat equity hours it invigorates me.  I am so excited for the classes coming up!” She accredits her Aunt Jackie for being her rock through the process and says she would not be who she is today without her.

We can’t wait to welcome home Geneva in the summer and are so honored to have her as a Habitat KC partner family!
